CAITLIN PRICE AW17

Caitlin Price’s fifth collection at London Fashion Week looks beyond the themes of adolescent revelry from previous seasons. For Autumn/Winter 17, the sophisticated glamour of yesteryear is reengineered into contemporary, sculptural silhouettes.

Within the folds of her unique fabrications and wrapping techniques, Price proposes a new approach to power dressing. Formfitting constructions transform into elongated trains of silk, whilst regal draping spills from daring cutaways and chic, asymmetric drop shoulders.

Elegance exudes from the sleek skirts given a voluminous, tulle lift to accentuate the contours of a woman’s hips. Elsewhere, Price collages distinct fabrics to redefine classic eveningwear: taffeta and viscose are married together, whilst real and synthetic silks sit side by side. It is an expert lesson in luxury and artifice.

Price’s affinity for sportswear simmers in ski-inspired, high-necked tops and zip-off, wide-leg slacks, juxtaposed with detachable skirt-cum-gowns. A cropped bomber is adorned with Price’s first foray into print; a warped ink blot camouflage, peppered with Caitlin Price monogram. Throughout, silver and black are the foundations for a refined, colour-blocked palette with vivid strokes of cobalt blue and magenta.

Continuing her collaboration with art director Joseph Bond, the environment for Autumn/Winter 17 melds high and low-end aesthetics. References to whitewashed shop front windows and sublime landscapes by Casper David Friedrich are merged within a mountainous, mirrored world that reflects both the softness and sharp lines of Price’s collection.

Caitlin Price is from South London. She graduated from the Central Saint Martins MA Fashion Womenswear course in 2013 where she was awarded the Armani Scholarship under the late Professor Louise Wilson. Caitlin launched her eponymous brand in 2015 as part of the Fashion East initiave. Caitlin showed her debut collection at LFW in Feb at the ICA,and has since shown at Tate Britain and Selfridges. Price was shortlisted as a semi-finalist for the prestigious LVMH prize for young fashion designers in Paris 2016.

The brand is stocked internationally and available from stores including Selfridges (London), Harvey Nichols (London) and Caitlin-price.co.uk

MISBHV Autumn/Winter 2017 Menswear

This season’s collection takes reference from a moment in time during the early 90’s in post-Soviet Europe. Focussing on the brand’s native Poland, it explores the vacuum of the fall of the Iron Curtain and the first exposure of an isolated society to the cultural influence of The West. “EUphoria” is about a naive perspective on ideas of “trend” and “luxury”, a complex dialogue between the harsh, cold surroundings of The East and the ultimate fantasy of The West.

DIGITAL OASIS – THE HUGO SPRING / SUMMER 2017 CAMPAIGN

This Spring / Summer 2017, enter HUGO’s Digital Oasis campaign, exploring the crossing on- and offline worlds and those who live at the intersection.

Shot in the desert in California, a cast of bright young things is photographed against shifting natural and man-made backdrops – from the arid landscape, punctuated by blurred pylons and pixelated shards of light, to the clicking and bleeping of a whirring power station control center.

The campaign features portraits of up-and-coming and established talent from the worlds of art, music, film and fashion. Each individual was chosen for his or her original spirit and energy, as part of a generation whose lives are inextricably linked with digital.

The line-up features musician Soko; model and actress Devon Aoki; artist Alexandra Marzella alongside her boyfriend, photographer Jasper Briggs; stylist and entrepreneur Luka Sabbat; models Anwar Hadid, Kiki Willems and Felix Gesnouin; and twin brothers Wyatt and Fletcher Shears of band The Garden.

The campaign was shot by photographer Harley Weir, renowned for raw and intimate depictions of her subjects. Short video vignettes run alongside the imagery, featuring Weir in conversation with the faces of the campaign. These offer a deeper look into the individual personalities of the cast, as well as their unique and often very unusual perspective on digital.

The cast wears new Spring / Summer 2017 styles from HUGO Menswear and Womenswear, designed under the same concept. The collection features clean silhouettes, influenced by the precision of digital, but thrown together and styled with relaxed attitude. Prints and patterns include 3D optic grids, while a bold cactus flower motif is cut, flipped and positioned onto lightweight fabrics. Inspired by the fading light of the desert at sundown, the color palette features tones of light purple, chartreuse and sahara, creating ready-to-wear and accessories that fit seamlessly into this new HUGO world.
